Premium In Person ADHD assessment services for adults

Beyond provides comprehensive private online ADHD assessments for adult men and women from our clinic in Cheshire.

Unfortunately, across the UK too many people are struggling to access ADHD assessment services. We firmly believe that this shouldn’t be the case and needs to change. We want to play a big part in that change, in order to help as many men and women as we can.

We have three private clinical spaces within our clinic in Cheshire, and have designed our clinic to be welcoming and provide a comfortable space for our assessments.

All of our Adult ADHD assessments are performed by one of our specialist Psychiatrists, who all have a deep knowledge and understanding of the symptoms and treatments of ADHD.

After your pre-assessment appointments and consultations, your assessment with our psychiatrist will usually take around 90 minutes, and we aim for you to have a full and comprehensive understanding of your condition should a diagnosis be achieved.

Any relevant or recommended treatment pathways will also be discussed and explained in detail with you. If there is a recommendation for treatment, an overview of the different types of treatment will be provided.

You will then of course be given time to think about your options, for yourself and your family, then if required one of our team will be in touch with you to offer any further information and answer any questions you may have post assessment.

This is coupled with the ongoing support provided by our highly qualified and experienced team of multidisciplinary clinicians, all of whom specialise in conducting private ADHD assessments.

What does our in-person assessment service entail?

We take an extremely comprehensive and personalised approach to all our ADHD assessments. Our experienced mental health specialists will conduct a thorough assessment, helping us to understand you, your life experiences and how ADHD symptoms may have affected your life historically, and how they may present and affect you day to day.

We understand that ADHD is different from individual to individual, symptoms can present differently in men and women. We also understand that symptoms can impact careers and learning, as well as bringing relationship challenges and sometimes a host of co-morbidities that can come with ADHD. We prioritise providing rapid access to assessment and if applicable, treatment.

We will gather information about you, your family history, your physical health, and understand your issues and any impact of your symptoms. We may also consider any previous child or adult ADHD diagnosis or treatment approaches that you may have undertaken. By understanding you and your unique circumstances, we can start the process of assessment and if diagnosed we can develop a tailored plan designed for you and your specific needs.

Our clinicians use recognised, evidence-based tools and approaches to build a complete picture, ensuring your assessment is thoughtful, thorough, and carried out to the highest professional standards. Each stage is designed to help you feel informed and supported throughout the journey.

Information gathering

To help us to gather a comprehensive understanding of your experiences.

We’ll send you two forms to complete: one for you, and one for someone who knew you during childhood. These help us build a fuller picture of your experiences from early life through to the present.

The more detail you can provide, the more complete the assessment can be — but please don’t worry if this isn’t possible. Simply let us know, and your clinician will guide you through the process with understanding and support.

Understanding Your Attention Profile

As part of our assessment process, we include a computer-based activity that explores patterns related to focus, attention and movement. This helps build a broader picture of how you or your child experience day-to-day tasks.

The results are combined with all other parts of the assessment to give your clinician a deeper understanding of your strengths and challenges. Your clinician will talk you through everything in a gentle, clear and supportive way.

What is a QbCheck and Why is it an Important Part of ADHD Diagnosis?

In-Depth Clinical Interview (DIVA-5)

You’ll meet with one of our specialist ADHD nurse practitioners or psychologists — either online or in person — to complete a structured DIVA-5 interview. This conversation gently explores your experiences in childhood and, where relevant, adulthood, helping us understand patterns related to attention, activity levels and daily functioning.

Many services complete this interview within the psychiatrist appointment, but we choose to carry it out beforehand. This gives your clinician more time to understand your story in detail, consider different factors that may be influencing your experiences, and prepare a clearer foundation for the next stages of your assessment.

This approach allows you to gain deeper insight into your strengths, challenges, and day-to-day experiences — with space for reflection, understanding, and support.

Meeting With a Specialist Psychiatrist

You’ll meet with one of our dedicated psychiatrists, either online or in person, for a thorough and supportive conversation. They will spend time understanding your experiences, reviewing the information gathered so far, and gently exploring areas such as daily functioning, relationships, education and work, where relevant.

Your psychiatrist will bring all of this together to provide a clear, thoughtful clinical understanding of your presentation. They will talk you through their perspective, explain their findings, and ensure you have space to ask questions and reflect.

During this discussion, your psychiatrist will also offer guidance on approaches that may support your wellbeing — which could include practical strategies, environmental adjustments, psychological approaches or other relevant pathways. Their aim is to help you feel informed, understood and confident about possible next steps.

After your appointment, you will receive a detailed written report summarising the assessment and setting out helpful recommendations. This may be used to request support in educational or workplace settings, or for other practical needs.

Your psychiatrist will always explain their conclusions with care and clarity, whether ADHD is identified or not, and may offer suggestions or signposting if further exploration could be helpful.

Ongoing Support and Guidance After Your Assessment

If you choose to access ongoing support with us, you’ll be able to meet regularly with one of our specialist practitioners. These check-ins provide space to discuss how you’re getting on, explore any challenges, and reflect on strategies or adjustments that may be helpful in day-to-day life.

Our practitioners take a caring, holistic approach — offering guidance, answering questions, and supporting you as you navigate your next steps. These sessions are designed to help you feel understood, reassured, and well-supported over time.

Ongoing Support and Guidance After Your Assessment

Follow-Up Support Call

One of our specialist ADHD nurses will meet with you to answer any questions you may have.

We know that understanding your assessment results can bring up questions or emotions, especially for children and families. If you feel you would benefit from extra support after receiving your report, you’re welcome to book a follow-up appointment with one of our specialist practitioners.

These sessions provide space to reflect, ask questions, and explore helpful next steps in a calm and supportive environment.

Final Support Review

At the end of your support pathway, you’ll have a final check-in with one of our lead practitioners. This session gives you the opportunity to reflect on your progress, discuss how things are going, and ensure you feel confident about the steps ahead.

Dr Toerien has over 20 years of experience working in mental health and more specifically in addictions, where a very high proportion of patients have ADHD. Dr Toerien is passionate about supporting his patients along their treatment journey to establish an accurate diagnosis and a comprehensive treatment plan that is evidence-based, individualised and patient-centred.

Dr Toerien believes that helping his patients to really understand their condition and the potential benefits that can be obtained from a wholistic treatment package, can be life changing and supports them to reach their full potential in life. Dr Toerien takes an active role in teaching and creating an awareness around ADHD, addictions, personal growth and wellness.
